Welcome to The Vancouver RIfles

A look at Yesterdays Soldiers today

The Vancouver Rifles are a reenactment group based in the province of British Columbia Canada, We along with several other groups across Canada, portray various types of troops and regiments of The Canadian Armed Forces during the late 20th Century.

Our members are based primarily in the Greater Vancouver/Lower Mainland area, however we do have off shoot branches on Vancouver Island and elsewhere in BC.

If this exciting and rewarding hobby appeals to you, please consider joining us. Our hobby is dependent upon the talents and enthusiasm of its members and there is always room for new interest! Please contact any of Admin members today for more information.

Our Mission:

Why we choose the Cold War.

When we first formed this group, we looked at what had been done in the reenactment and living history communities around the world.

We saw many groups which based themselves off units in the 1st or 2nd world wars, along with a series of groups which portrayed either the militia days of Canada prior to confederation or during the Korean war. But nothing which showed anything of Canada's military history for the past 50 years.

We took it upon ourselves to tell that story.

Reenactments:

As part of our mandate to preserve and share the history of the Canadian Forces, The Vancouver Rifles attend reenactments events that both prepare members to experience what life was like for serving members and also allow them to pass on the feeling and experiences that serving soldiers would have gone through.

Living History:

Living History events are very similar to Reenactments however they are more typically observed by the public/civilian world, as a look into a small part of a soldiers experience. Most often these are set up as a camp site where people can walk though as experience field life for a soldier.
For example: think of a Renaissance fair or a encampment.

Military Simulation (MilSim)

Military Simulation is where most of the meat and bones of a reenactment group is, these are events where members in their full kits go through and experience operations similar to how the actual period units would have functioned.

A very good example of this is the Operation East Wind series of events.
